Hair Bow Tutorial

Materials
Step 1

What you will need:
8" x 6" piece of fabric
3 1/2" x 1 1/2" piece of fabric
Thread, pins, needles, scissors

Step 1:
Fold fabric in half, with right sides together.

Step 2
Step 3

Step 2:
Pin. Again, don't get influenced by my poor pinning method. Pin perpendicular to the edge of the fabric.

Step 3:
Sew all the way around.

Step 4
Step 4: Cut

Step 4:
Now you will fold the fabric in half, to find the middle of the fabric. Next cut a 1 inch slit in the middle. This will allow us to turn the bow inside out.

Step 5: Flip
Step 5: Back side

Step 5:
Turn the fabric inside out.

Step 6:
Now you have this. -->
Don't worry, you won't see the slit in the end :)
Step 7
Step 8

Step 7:

Now take the small piece of fabric, and fold it in half with wrong sides together.

Step 8:
Pin. This is the correct way to pin!
Step 9
Step 10

Step 9:
 Sew!

Step 10:
Fold the fabric so that the seam is on the back of the strip.

Step 10: View from back
Step 11

Step 11:
Now take the big fabric, and place four fingers spaced out on it in a line.

Step 12
Step 13

Step 12:
Squeeze your fingers together.
Magic!

Step 13
Step 14

Step 13:

Take your small fabric strip and wrap it around the middle of the bow.

Step 14:
Pin and sew by hand, and trim extra fabric

Congrats!
You have just made your own hair bow in 14 steps!

To wear it, you can just stick a barrette or bobby pin through the middle strip in the back.

Enjoy!

High/Low Chiffon Skirt Tutorial

As you may know, high-low skirts are very popular right now, so I decided to make one (+tutorial)!

Materials ^
Step 1: Chiffon Fabric
What you will need:
1 yard polyester chiffon fabric
3/4 yard rayon lining
Scissors
Wide elastic
Thread
Pins/Needles (or machine)
Chalk

Step 1: Lining Fabric
Step 2: Fold it once

Step 1:
Take the rectangle of chiffon fabric and sew one side of it together. Do this with the lining fabric too.

Step 2:
Hem the top of both fabrics. This will attach to the elastic band. How To in next step.

Step 2: Fold it twice
Step 3: Chiffon
Step 2: How
Hem it by folding the fabric end in half once, and then folding that again, so that the end of the fabric is hidden.

Step 3:
Pin. You are hemming both fabrics. WARNING - Chiffon is extremely frustrating to hem, so this step may take some time.

Step 3: Lining
Step 4: Four points pinned

Step 4:
Now we are going to attach the chiffon to the lining. (If you fabrics are the same width, just go ahead and sew it evenly.)

The way you do this with even gathering is by doing it in sections.

Step 4: Eight points pinned
Step 4: Twelve points pinned
First four points all around the skirt,

then halfway between the points,

then a 1/4 of the way,

and so on until there is
no more spare fabric.

Step 5: I went a little pin crazy here...
Step 6: Close up view (ignore pins)
 Step 5:
Hopefully you should have no loose fabric at this point, so now it's time for you to sew them together with a straight stitch.

Step 6:
Go through slowly removing the pins as you go.

You can see the two lining side by side.
Step 7: My settings for the stitch

Step 7: Now it's time to attach the skirt to the elastic waist band so we can sew it.

Step 8:
Make sure you have the waist band measured to your waist and sewn together with a zig-zag stitch.

Step 8:
Step 9:

Step 9:
Ok, now it's pin the elastic to the skirt. This is the same process as pinning the chiffon to the lining.

Four points pinned.

Step 9:
Step 9:

<-- 8 points pinned

9 points pinned -->

Step 9:
Step 9:

<-- 10 points pinned

1/4 of the skirt all pinned. -->
Proceed to do this to the other 3/4.

Step 10: Sewing it
Step 10:  Close-up
Step 10:
Sew the elastic to the skirt with the zig-zag stitch I mentioned earlier. I used blue thread to add a bit of detail.

Step 11:
Yay! Cutting! Measure the length you want the highest part of the skirt to be and add an inch for seam allowance. Sorry I had no pics, but I did it by cutting up to the measurement and then cutting a from the bottom up to the point in an arch. In this step, I also cut the lining to a length I liked.

Step 12: ^
Pin and hem each layer of fabric, again this
may take some time, but you cannot skip this. If you do, the second you wash this, it will unravel like crazy.

Step 13:
 Sew!
**Please note that my technique for pinning is incorrect.
You are supposed to pin it sideways like this -->
(Allows the machine's needle to go over the pin, so you don't have to remove it.)

               Back                                                      Front                                                Side
